Today most people use social media. However, whilst there are many benefits of using social media platforms, there are disadvantages too. The main benefit of using social media is that you can contact friends anywhere, anytime. So social media helps maintain long distance relationships and allows you to keep in contact with loved ones when you are travelling. It also allows you to widen your circle of friends. This is especially important if you are an introvert and have difficulty socialising. However, there are also downsides to social media. Being able to access friends online 24/7 can fuel addiction to social media. Some people may even end up substituting online contact for face-to-face interaction. Another problem is that social media posts can create feelings of envy when people start comparing lifestyles online. In my opinion, although there are many disadvantages to social media, the benefits outweigh the disadvantages.
