单词不能用中文词汇的褒贬色彩去记

今天学这个词组take advantage of的写作,很多中国人因为只记得中文 “利用”这个带贬义的词义，因此写作中根本不敢用，怕出现自私牟利的意思。事实上这个短语出现在各种情况下，远远不止我们固化思维的贬义。
不去阅读，又只背单词，只记其中一个中文意思，当然不会使用单词。
除了会给大家精选写得特别好的例句外，还有这些词出现在今年的报刊新闻里的原句用法。

It can be hard to turn down a good deal. This has been apparent recently with the hordes descending upon the city's retail outlets to take advantage of the generous discounts being offered.
很难拒绝一个优惠。这一点最近表现得很明显---成群结队的人趁着打折的时候涌向城市的零售商店。
take advantage of
很多人以外take advantage of就是“利用”，应该是个彻底的贬义，因此对这种句子里出现这样一个短语感觉很怪。而且自己从来不敢随便用，怕表达出来自己的自私利用。
其实take advantage of表达贬义的“自私利用”只是其中一个用法。
因此用中文记单词的方法学的词汇就造成了思维理解上的局限。其实英语词汇并不存在中文里很固定的褒义和贬义，比如“利用”这个中文概念里的贬义。

to make good use of (something) : to profit by (something)
充分利用:最大限度地利用或利用某物
To utilize or avail oneself of something to the fullest possible extent.
顺势
take advantage of an opportunity
我们利用暖和的天气洗了些衣服。
We took advantage of the warm weather and did some washing work.
我想趁我在这里的时候好好利用一下这里的体育设施。
I thought I'd take advantage of the sports facilities while I'm here.
我们趁房地产销售低迷的时候买了一套便宜的房子。
We took advantage of the downturn in real estate sales to get a good deal on a house.
我们在这里的时候，你应该好好利用酒店的健身房和游泳池。
You should take advantage of the hotel's gym and pool while we're here.
尽量利用每一个出现在你面前的机会。请趁顾问还在办公室的时候好好利用。
Try to take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way. Please take advantage of the consultant while she is here in the office.

自私地利用

take advantage of someone一个意思就是为了私利而不公平利用。
1.） to deceive someone. （贬义）
她利用了他毫无戒心的本性。
She took advantage of his unsuspecting naturce.
如果你太轻信别人，别人就会利用你。
If you're too trusting, other people will take advantage of you.
你必须对这个女销售态度坚决，否则她会利用你的。
You need to be firm with the saleswoman or she'll try to take advantage of you.
2.） to impose on someone. 强加于某人（无贬义）
to ask for or expect more than is fair or reasonable from (someone)
我很高兴有你的帮助。我希望我没有占你的便宜。
I am glad to have your help. I hope I am not taking advantage of you.
我很高兴做这件事。你并没有占我便宜。
I am glad to do it. You are not taking advantage of me.
